Program in a Box
Yemaya Productions offers programs in a box that can be modified to meet your community's needs. It is called a "program in a box" because it provides all of the instructional support needed to execute a program. Below are our current offerings:
Peace Program - From the Margins is an art-based program designed to promote peace and address conflict among individuals and groups in conflict. The program was piloted in 2021 in Jos, Nigeria with a group of 14 Christians and Muslims in conflict. The curriculum features art-based activities that promote awareness and mutual understanding of groups in conflict, culminating with a collaborative art-based activity. From the Margins was developed by Dr. Zayda Sorrell-Medina (California State University) and Dr. Kingsley Madueke (University of Jos).
Environmental Justice Program - Engaging Our Communities is an environmental justice program raising awareness on social and environmental injustice. The first phase of the program features workshops that raise awareness on concepts related to environmental (in)justice. The second phase of the program engages the community to dissect a theater script that centers on an environmental injustice topic. In the last phase of the program, the participants participate in a public theater production where they act out the script, followed by a community dialogue reflecting on the themes in the script. Engaging Our Communities was developed by Dr. Zayda Sorrell-Medina (California State University Northridge), Dr. Michelle Zuñiga (University of North Carolina Charlotte) under the mentorship of Dr. Karna Wong (University of California, Irvine). It was piloted in Pittsburgh in 2018.
How it works:
Yemaya Productions works one-on-one with community leaders to implement the above programs in a box in their community. The program will be adjusted to meet your population's needs. We provide the curriculum, and you implement the program. Ongoing support is provided to community leaders throughout the program. For example, we provide support with recruitment strategies and best practices. When the program is over, Yemaya Productions evaluates the program outcomes and develops a report highlighting the program outcomes.
