To promote social change through art, research, and education.
What We Do
We specialize in the development of evidence-based artistic programs that aim to promote social change among communities across the globe.
About Us
Yemaya Productions was founded in 2012 by Dr. Zayda Sorrell-Medina to address the need for more diverse cultural programs in Pittsburgh, PA to promote cultural inclusion. We have since then expanded by addressing the need for more diverse programs and services for individuals, organizations, communities, and governments in their efforts toward social change. Since 2012, we have developed and carried out over 100 artistic programs in the United States and abroad, such as an annual artistic production, study abroad to Cuba, an environmental justice training program culminating with a theater production, and a Peace program in Jos, Nigeria.
The core pillars of our work are art, research, and education. Art is a humanistic approach to addressing social problems, helping to generate compassion and empathy, which are critical to promoting social change. Research provides an evidenced-based framework to achieve program goals. Education provides individuals with the awareness and knowledge to become better social agents. By integrating these three strategies, Yemaya Productions aims to effectively contribute to social change.
We work with diverse populations including students, researchers, artists, organizations, and governments. If you are interested in our services or collaborating on a project, please reach out!
